On Thursday, 11 April 2024, Waterfall Preparatory’s Intermediate Phase (IP) pupils and staff conducted the day a little differently, arriving at school at 14:30. As the rest of the campus was getting ready to go home, the IP pupils arrived for what promised to be an exciting evening of fun and learning – the Prep’s first Night School! The primary goal of this event was to provide our pupils with a memorable and enriching experience. We believe that learning extends beyond the confines of a traditional classroom and this event allowed us to explore the wonders of our natural surroundings in a unique and
engaging way.

Our pupils started the evening with an assembly, which was followed by some classroom learning. Thereafter, the learning moved from inside the classroom to exploration on campus. Our pupils enjoyed an amazing Music lesson/praise session while watching the sunset, followed by a Natural Sciences lesson in the forest.

There truly was something for everyone, as activities also included playing Pictionary, collecting glow stars in the forest and making s’mores! The evening presented teachers with the chance to host practical lessons on nocturnal wildlife and star-gazing. It also presented an excellent opportunity for students to connect with the environment, fostering a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

“One of my favourite things was seeing kids in different environments and out of their comfort zones,” says Lauren Rendilheiro,
Waterfall Preparatory’s Head of Intermediate Phase and Grade 7 teacher. “It was great to see the bonding that happened with the kids within different classes. The Grade 4, 5 and 6s ended the night with a bring and share feast, while the Grade 7’s
enjoyed a banquet. The night was enjoyed by all and, who knows, this could be the start of many exciting nocturnal adventures.
