Westville Senior Primary School recently held an outreach initiative to mark Mandela Day which falls on 18 July. Learners and staff donated just over 150 items such as blankets, beanies, scarves, gloves and jackets to keep babies, children and individuals from disadvantaged communities warm this winter. The donations were collected by Mari van der Merwe, the Director of a local non-profit organisation called Communities, Children and Responsible Care. The much-needed items will be distributed to hospitals, pre-schools and centres that help babies, children and individuals from disadvantaged communities. Mrs van der Merwe thanked Westville Senior Primary for showing kindness and compassion to those in need, and for giving generously. She added that a collection like this, held to mark Mandela Day, reminds us that each individual has the power to make a difference.
