Grantleigh Schools’ Grade 10 Consumer Studies class recently immersed themselves in a practical culinary experience that brought Middle Eastern cuisine to the classroom. Students crafted pita bread from scratch, an exercise that provided hands-on insight into working with yeast dough and understanding gluten development.
After perfectly baking their golden, puffed pitas, the learners filled them with a well-seasoned mince mixture and complemented the dish with a vibrant side salad. The practical was not only a lesson in cooking but also an exploration of cultural heritage and nutritional balance, emphasizing how simple ingredients can be transformed into satisfying, wholesome meals.
