AWSUM had a chat with Sifiso Mpanza, first team rugby captain of Wynberg Boys’ High School. We asked him about their season and what his expectations are for the game against SACS.

 What is the highlight of your team’s rugby season this year?

Away wins against Grey High School, and the triple over Bishops, Rondebosch & SACS in the first half of the season. But also the standard of rugby that we produced in beating Boland Landbou and Bishops.

How do you motivate your team?

We’re very fortunate to have a family mindset where self-motivation for the good of all means the team builds itself toward every match.

 Who is your vice-captain and how does he support you?

Our team is normally captained by As’ad Moos and Zack Porthen who are away at the moment playing for SA Schools. I am standing in for them in their absence.

Are you happy with your team’s line up for the match against SACS? Do you have any injuries in your side?

No injuries, but we are missing our two “Springboks” who are playing for SA Schools against England and France

What do you as a team want to achieve this year? What will make you proud?

We have had a fantastic season and would just like to finish on a high by beating SACS and playing great rugby at the same time.

What are your plans for the future?

I want to be a pro rugby player.
