When changing Schools Changes your life – for the better! Abbotts College High School lives by the motto Change Schools, Change Your Life. Looking at the wonderful matric results of the class of 2022 at Abbotts College JHB South, it is clear that our motto isn’t just a saying, but that it translates to real life. “We are delighted with the success of our students, and congratulate them on their achievements,” says Marion Kohler, Principal at Abbotts College Johannesburg South. Abbotts student Chian Govindasamy walked away as the top matriculant at Abbotts College JHB South, accomplishing 6 A’s and 1 B.

Despite the many interruptions of lockdowns and online teaching along their academic journey for the 2022 Matrics, Abbotts College students rose to the challenge and achieved solid results. “For those students who improved their marks, we celebrate your success! Schooling for many students is not about the number of distinctions that are on a certificate, but rather how they were able to deliver at the top of their potential,” says Kohler.

“At Abbotts College High School, we celebrate the student who moves from a D to a C symbol, or the student who encountered barriers to learning and was able to overcome immense challenges. It is also about those students who may come from difficult environments or have faced trauma and emotional strain along the way. Many of these students, against all odds, have been tenacious in acquiring their academic goals. To these students, we say, well done!”

One such a student is Celestino Owono Esono Nsa, who joined us from Equatorial Guinea in 2019 to complete his schooling. When Celestino joined Abbotts College, he faced many challenges, including the fact that Spanish is his home language. Celestino persevered and managed to improve his Maths Literacy marks by 22% and his Tourism marks by 28%. With the help of his incredible teachers, he obtained his matric with a Bachelor’s pass and is now looking to study law at IIE MSA.

“There might be students throughout South Africa that find themselves disillusioned by their results. Such students should strongly consider meeting with a school like Abbotts College High school and consider redoing some or all of their subjects,” Kohler advises. “Investing an extra year really could mean the difference between settling for plan B or making sure that plan A remains on the table, and within reach.”
