Key stakeholders joined learners and educators at Dr Izak van Niekerk Primary School for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the handover of a newly completed multipurpose school hall, the result of a long-standing, collaborative effort that will benefit both the school and the wider community.

The facility significantly improves the learning and reflects a sustained, multi-stakeholder partnership that has addressed critical infrastructure needs and delivered a facility that will serve generations to come.

The primary funder, Kangnas Wind Farm, which works closely with the community to support socio-economic and infrastructure development, has invested close to R3 million since 2022, funding key phases including ablution facilities, sewer installation, ceiling completion, and final flooring.

Mr Randall Peters, the school principal, welcomed the completion of the project, noting its practical impact. “The completion of our school hall marks a significant milestone. This space will not only host events, but also nurture opportunity, belonging, and growth for every learner who walks through its doors,” he said.

The development builds on years of phased progress, supported by the School Governing Body, Department of Education, Department of Public Works, Nama Khoi Local Municipality, the Northern Cape Provincial Gambling Board, and local mining partners.

Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm, said the project demonstrates the value of long-term collaboration in supporting education.

“Recognising the need to improve infrastructure at the school, we were pleased to support the completion of the hall and associated upgrades. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to community development, particularly in supporting education and creating spaces that can be shared by both the school and the wider community,” she said.

Beyond improving school infrastructure, the hall also creates opportunities for community use, enabling the school to host events and generate additional income to support ongoing development.

This collaborative effort underscores the importance of partnership in strengthening local education infrastructure and supporting long-term community development in the Namaqualand region.
