SPAR Tournament results for Dundee High School. On Saturday, the 1st hockey girls took part in the 13th annual Spar Tournament at St Dominic’s. Their first game was against Vryheid High School. The Spartans dominated from the onset but were unable to convert their opportunities. Unfortunately Vryheid got a ball past the keeper and even though the girls kept taking shots, they lost 0 – 1. The Man of the Match was Snakho Ndlovu. The second game was against Utrecht. With renewed energy the girls once again dominated. Asimbonge Mazibuko scored 2 goals and Nobunto Radebe scored a beauty off a short corner. The final score was 3 – 0 with Asimbonge Mazibuko as man of the match. In order to stay in the tournament they needed to beat St Dominic’s.
Unfortunately, even though the girls had some brilliant break aways, they lost 0 – 2. The man of the match was Hayley Wentzel. The final game was against Amajuba. Great passing hockey was played and the girls won 3 – 0. Snakho Ndlovu scored off a beautiful deflection. Sima Mbatha had a ‘cover drive’ into the top right corner and Innecke Labuschagne scored off left post. The Man of the Match was Sima Mbatha. Special thanks to old scholar Ntutukho “Decrease” Phungula who accompanied Mrs Lippke and the team. Her motivation and advice kept the girls focused. Many thanks to SPAR for a lovely day of hockey.
