New Horizon College Bethlehem‘s annual Grade 6 leadership camp was an unforgettable experience that helped our learners to grow as individuals and as a team. Over the course of the camp, they learned valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and responsibility, while also enjoying exciting activities and building stronger friendships.
Lessons Learned
- Leadership is about responsibility – We discovered that being a leader means setting an example, listening to others, and making decisions that benefit the whole group.
- Teamwork makes a difference – Many of the activities required the learners to work together. They realized that everyone has unique strengths, and success comes when they support one another.
- Confidence and communication – Standing in front of others, sharing ideas, and leading small groups helped them become more confident and improve their communication skills.
- Perseverance – Some tasks were challenging, but our learners learned not to give up and to encourage each other to keep going.
Activities Enjoyed
- Obstacle courses that tested teamwork and problem-solving
- Group challenges where they had to trust and rely on one another
- Campfire reflections, where they shared their thoughts and encouraged each other
- Fun outdoor activities like hiking, games, and team competitions
Leadership is not only about being in charge, but also about listening, helping, and showing kindness. Many of our learners discovered strengths they didn’t know they had, and left the camp with more confidence in themselves. “Growing Together, Leading Together” – unknown
