Mitchell House Community Supports Flood-Affected Communities

In response to the recent flooding that has affected communities across Limpopo and Mpumalanga, the Mitchell House community joined hands in a powerful show of compassion and solidarity, successfully collecting and delivering essential relief items for affected families.

The school launched a flood relief drive calling on its families, learners, staff, and broader community to donate non-perishable food items and other essential supplies. The response was overwhelming, with significant contributions received over a short period of time.

All donations were delivered to Jacaranda FM as part of their flood relief initiative. From there, Gift of the Givers, one of South Africa’s leading humanitarian organisations, will oversee the distribution of the collected items to flood-affected areas.

As a Limpopo-based school, Mitchell House felt a strong responsibility to respond meaningfully to the crisis facing communities in the region. The initiative aimed not only to provide immediate relief, but also to model compassion, unity, and active citizenship for learners.

The school expressed deep gratitude to its community for their generosity and willingness to act swiftly in a time of need. “The response from our families, learners, and staff has been truly humbling. It is moments like these that remind us of the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together.”

The relief drive reflects Mitchell House’s commitment to its ethos of Growing people of significance — encouraging learners and families to live out values of empathy, responsibility, and service beyond the school gates. Mitchell House extends sincere thanks to Jacaranda FM and Gift of the Givers for coordinating the broader relief effort and ensuring that donations reach those who need them most.
