Last term, our Michaelhouse Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Networking (M.E.N) Society welcomed entrepreneur and iKhokha co-founder, Matt Putman.
The day began with a podcast recording in our Makan Innovation Centre, where Matt shared his journey and early entrepreneurial experiences with Connor McMurray and Nathan Roberts. Later, 60 Michaelhouse boys joined him for a formal dinner and address in the Centenary Centre, alongside 20 business studies learners from The Wykeham Collegiate – a wonderful moment of shared learning and collaboration.
Matt spoke openly about resilience, setbacks, and the realities of entrepreneurship, from his early ventures to the eventual growth of iKhokha into one of South Africa’s leading fintech companies. He even brought along the original prototypes, sparking great interest among the boys and girls in attendance. The evening closed with a lively Q&A, giving students the chance to engage directly with Matt and take away valuable insights from his story. It was a memorable occasion that reminded us of the importance of curiosity, innovation, and community.
