Inspiring young gymnast overcomes challenges to become local champion

Xavier is a 12-year-old gymnast from Sunningdale Primary in Cape Town whose journey is a testament to perseverance and the power of sport. For the past five years, gymnastics has provided focus and discipline for Xavier as he navigates life with ADHD and ASD. His dedication is a true inspiration, and his recent achievements are simply phenomenal. He is training four days a week at Mega Gymnastics Academy. Xavier has consistently climbed the ranks in his sport; his impressive record includes:
- 2021: Western Cape Champion (Gold), Level 1
- 2022: Western Cape Vice-Champion (Silver), Level 2
- 2023: Western Cape Champion (Gold), Level 3
- 2024: Western Cape Champion (Gold), Level 4, and 5th in the country at the SA Gym Games
Most recently, Xavier had a standout performance at the Cape Town district trials, where he showed incredible skill and determination, and secured 1st place overall with a score of 8.8, earning him the opportunity to represent the Western Cape at the upcoming championships in August. His top finishes included 1st place for Floor & Vault and 2nd place for Palmer Horse & Mushroom and High Bar. This is a massive step toward Xavier’s goal of competing at the 2025 SA Gym games being hosted in Pretoria this year.
