34th in the world! Hermanus High School athlete Albertus van Zyl represented South Africa at the XTERRA World Championships Off-road Triathlon hosted at Molveno Italy this past Sunday 28 September. Albertus competed alongside 120 other competitors from 23 countries. Albertus finished the gruelling course in 34th place in his 18-19 year category. The race consisted of a 750 meter open water swim in Lake Molveno followed by a very tough 16km Mountainbike ride and then a 5km trail run. The race lived up to it extreme reputation as it rained the whole week leading up to Sunday , with the Pros racing the Saturday which left the trails very slippery and muddy. We are very proud of his grit and determination to finish the race after months of preparation.
