Glenashley Prep Green Team’s Insect Hotel bring them a little closer to nature

The Green Team ended last year with a creative and eco-friendly project that brought our school community a little closer to nature. Using only recycled materials and natural products, the primary school learners worked together to design and build unique “insect hotel rooms.” Each small structure was carefully planned to provide shelter for insects such as ladybirds, beetles, and solitary bees. Learners collected items like sticks, pinecones, cardboard, and dried leaves, learning how everyday objects can be repurposed to support the environment.
This year, their completed rooms have been assembled into the Glenashley Prep Insect Hotel, proudly placed in one of our indigenous gardens. Our thanks to our Hotel “designer’ Principal Naaim Jaffar, and our Hotel ‘craftsmen’, Mr Petros Xulu and Mr Simon Mzimela. Surrounded by local plants and natural habitats, the hotel is now ready for its first tiny visitors. The Green Team is excited to monitor the space, observe the new guests who arrive, and continue encouraging biodiversity within our school grounds.
