Fish Hoek High School Honours Excellence

Fish Hoek High School proudly recognised the outstanding achievements of its learners at the annual Service and Culture Awards held on 15 October, followed by the Sports Awards on 16 October. These events celebrated the dedication and excellence of learners who have made remarkable contributions in various areas over the past year.

Fish Hoek High School principal Steven Joubert expressed immense pride in the learners’ achievements, “These awards not only recognise individual excellence but also reflect the spirit of our school community. We celebrate the diverse talents and contributions of our learners, who continue to shine in culture, service and sports.”

The Service and Culture Awards, featuring the entertaining MC and comedian Alan Committee as a guest speaker, presented over 250 awards to learners who excelled in languages, culture, and service. Categories included Best Speaker, English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa, Visual Art & Design, Service & Hospitality, Dance, Music and Choir, Drama with the Cultural Trophy awarded to Matthew Green for Greatest Contribution to the Cultural Life of the School. Additionally, many learners were acknowledged for their invaluable service contributions, including participation in first aid, blood drives, and committees such as the Catering Club, Promotions, and Impact Committees. Grade 9 learner Braedon Powell received the Mayor’s Civic Pride Award for his lifesaving efforts and service to the community.

The following day, the Sports Awards celebrated the exceptional achievements of Fish Hoek High School athletes in Provincial and National representation and Major and Special Sports Trophies across both summer and winter sports. Notable recognitions included our senior national representatives:

  • Simon Winter (U18) – South African U18 Surfing Champion.
  • Georgia Singe (U19) – South African Junior Life-Saving Team and achieved outstanding results in both the South African Junior Canoeing Team, securing 2nd places in K1 and K2 categories at the World Championships, and as a member of the South African Junior Surfski Team, winning a 2 World Championship gold medals.
  • Heath Clarke (U18) – South African Junior Surfski Team and winning silver at the 2024 World Championships.
  • Wade Beukes – South African Junior Lifesaving Team, the South African Team for World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming, and the South African Senior Swimming Team.
  • Skyla Richert – Recognised in the South African Mixed Martial Arts Championship.
  • Katherine Uphill (U18) – South African U18 Baseball Team (the first ever u18 Women’s team).
  • The Sweeting Cup for Most Outstanding Achievement in a Non-School Sport was awarded to Georgia Singe. The Junior Sportswoman of the Year title went to Teagan Hudson, while the Junior Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Shane Lindsay.
  • The coveted Geoff Forsyth Cup for Sportswoman of the Year was awarded jointly to Chelsea Scott and Chloe Galvin, while the Norah Forsyth Cup for Sportsman of the Year was presented to David Pikus.

The Sports Awards also featured guest speaker Alan Michell, a golfing legend and Fish Hoek High School alumnus, who inspired guests with his reflections. Alan shared his journey and the importance of dedication in sports, drawing on his experiences as a professional golfer in South Africa and the US. Fish Hoek High School congratulates all the award recipients and thanks everyone who has supported them throughout the year.
