Crawford International Sandton Pre-Primary Hosts First Annual Africanarra Celebration. Crawford International Sandton Pre-Primary recently hosted its first annual Africanarra celebration—an inspiring event rooted in the values of the African Reggio Emilia Alliance (AREA), which champions early childhood education grounded in African identity, storytelling, community, and child-led learning.
Africanarra is a joyful expression of African heritage and creativity, promoting connection through shared narratives and meaningful cultural experiences. This year, St Teresa’s Convent School from Coronationville was warmly welcomed as a guest school, joining the celebration for a memorable day of storytelling, laughter, and learning.
The event centered on the rich tradition of oral storytelling, honouring its role in shaping young minds and preserving culture. Children from both schools enjoyed lively playground activities, listened to captivating tales, and shared in a delicious meal together. Each visiting child was gifted a lunchbox to take home, ensuring full tummies beyond the event, and a book to treasure—thanks to generous donations from the Crawford Sandton parent community.
In addition, a collection of books was donated to help enrich St Teresa’s school library, reinforcing the event’s theme of giving and lifelong learning.
This inaugural Africanarra celebration marks the beginning of what promises to become a beloved annual tradition, strengthening ties between schools and nurturing a deep appreciation for African stories, voices, and community spirit.
