On Saturday, the 4th of May, Crawford International Sandton College participated in their first Volleyball tournament at the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ). Entering two girls’ teams and one boys’ team, we set off on Saturday morning at 07:45 to AISJ, accompanied by our Coaches, Claudia Accone and Kevin Accone, as well as our managing teachers Ms Matadin and Mr Musada.
Erin Napier (Grade 9) shares her thoughts:
Arriving promptly at 08:30 with big smiles and rocking new uniforms, we were eager to play. We played against the AISJ Eagles, DSJ, Michael Mount, Cathula and Lundulwazi throughout the day. Lunch was sponsored by Ms Brenda Baijnath from Delforno Parkmore. We enjoyed chicken burgers and chips, energy bars, apples, and juice boxes. These kept the team going for the day! The Girls A team played 4 matches and won 2 against Michael Mount and AISJ PTA B. The Girls B team played 4 matches, keeping the game tight on many occasions and making some incredible passes. The boys’ team also played four matches, with some great rallies and points scored. It’s a dream come true to finally have volleyball up and running at Crawford International Sandton College. The team is so grateful for this amazing experience, and it was a day full of fun, friends, and game time. A special thanks to Ashleigh Accone (Grade 9) who attended and helped coach the teams. It was an unforgettable experience providing us with a lot of opportunities to grow in our gameplay. We cannot wait to see how will perform at the next tournament.
Sarini Govender (Grade 9) shares her thoughts:
We were a bit nervous, but our teachers and coaches reassured us that we would be fine. Our excitement grew as we started warming up for the matches. Our day was filled with pure joy, energy and team spirit! We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to have competed in this tournament and we eagerly anticipate future games to help our volleyball team grow. A heartfelt thank you to Coach Claudia, Coach Kevin, Ms Matadin, and Mr Musada for their consistent support in pushing our team forward and enabling us to participate in this event!
