The Kultura Festival is pulling out all the stops for its inaugural edition, treating audiences to an extraordinary musical showcase led by the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra on 22 June. Symphony and Song promises to be a Sunday afternoon of enchantment for the whole family, pairing symphonic brilliance with vocal virtuosity. Curated exclusively for the Kultura Festival, the program is a vibrant celebration of classical, operatic, and musical theatre compositions. It features gems such as Rimsky-Korsakov’s Spanish-inspired Capriccio Espagnol, the rhythmic pulse of Arthur Feder’s Tango, and some delightful surprises designed to especially captivate the youngest attendees.

Adding to the magic of the afternoon is the renowned Durbanville born and bred soprano, Zanne Stapelberg, whose presence elevates the performance to dazzling heights. Known for her ability to connect deeply with her audience, Stapelberg will perform iconic operatic and musical hits, including Come Scoglio, Song to the Moon, I Could Have Danced All Night, and selections from Kiss of the Spider Woman. The repertoire also includes fiery and playful tango pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Ruperto Chapi, promising an emotionally rich and diverse musical experience.

Beyond the notes on the page, this performance is a celebration of unity, culture, and the power of music to bring people together. It is a testament to the incredible talent nurtured within South Africa’s music community and the enduring appeal of symphonic art. Secure your seat at the Curro Durbanville High School Theatre and prepare to be swept away. Tickets for Symphony and Song are available at Quicket.
