Bloubergrant High School Rugby 2023. Like in the past we were part of The South African Rugby Legends Vuka league. This is a league for smaller schools with only two teams. We did play in the Cape Town Central Region of the Vuka League. We registered an under 16 and under 19 boys teams as well as a girls team. The U19 team was captained by Khanya Ndumiso and the U16 team by Aiden Scholtz. I would like to thank Mr. Steenkamp who took over the coaching of the under 16 boys team. Also Mr. Felix and Mr. Brown who did find some time in there busy schedules to pop in and give a hand. Mr. Steenkamp and Mr. Brown was also our referees for some of our home games.

The girls team was captained by Claubertie Mputu. Most of the girls only started playing rugby here at Bloubergrant High. I’m super proud of the girls because they surprised everybody not only on the field but also off the field and especially their commitment. Two of our girls namely Wedaad van Wyk and Theresa Muawa took part in the WP trials. They didn’t make it to the team but  gained a lot of experience. I would also like to thank Ms. Cloete and Ms. Davids who also gave a hand with the admin and coaching of the girls.

A lot of schools struggled to get their rugby off from the ground after COVID but we managed to move on with our rugby. We also participated in the West Coast Sport Festival and the Vuka Ruck and Jol Festival at Rhodes High School. In both festivals our U19 team won their matches. Our U/16 team won at Rhodes but lost at the West Coast festival. Like in the past we also played friendly games against bigger rugby schools like Proteus and Robinvale from Atlantis. When we look at the final scores we can really say our rugby grew.

I’m proud to announce that the following boys made it to the Cape Town Central regional U/15 team. They are: Alatta Nqxaboni, Liam Cloete, Gerrit Scheffers, Cole Arendse and Onwabo Njomane.  They participated in the SA Rugby Legends Vuka Cup during the June holidays.  A big thank you goes out to our Headmaster and the rest of the staff for the moral support and encouragement on and off the field. We really appreciate it. Bloubergrant can really be proud of our rugby boys and girls. Well done boys and girls. I am super proud of you.Cecil Dirks – Rugby Coordinator

Grade 8 B  2023: For the first time in my teaching career I had a grade 8 register class. For me it was a challenge because I didn’t know what to expect.  I didn’t know how to approach them at first because I didn’t want to scare them and of cause it was their first year at high school. At first the silence in my class was overwhelming. They bearly said a word. Even Mrs. Pienaar asked me what did I promised them or did I scare them with my voice.

For the first couple of days I struggled to remember your names because I only see you during register period.  It wasn’t long before my colleauges start complaining. Soon I remembered the names. Now I know who is Ryan, Kevin, Marco ….We did interacted now more and I began to know my babies. Ryan even attended the Father and son brunch with me. I look at my babies differently now. The silence during register period was gone. Everybody started interacting with one another. Grade 8 B you are now at the end of your first year of high school but this is not the end. See this as the beginning of new things. I want to wish you only the best for the years to come. Love you. Mr. C.G. Dirks
