Music knows no borders, and this was beautifully demonstrated at the DSJ Sundowner Concert 2025
on 8 March. Fifteen orchestra members from the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria (DSP)
joined forces with their counterparts at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) for
a spectacular evening of music.

The diverse programme featured 20 pieces, ranging from classical favourites like Entry of the Gladiators and Ave Maria to modern hits like Havana and Ein Stern, der deinen Namen trägt. Film music enthusiasts were also treated to themes from The Avengers, ensuring that every musical taste was catered for.

The orchestra, conducted by Maestro Richard Cock and Viola Ziegler, brought together learners,
staff members, parents from both schools, and even a few professional musicians. After four
intensive rehearsals at the DSJ, the collaboration culminated in a performance filled with energy and
passion. The DSJ choirs, marimbas, and dancers further enriched the evening, making it a true
celebration of musical talent

Reflecting on the event, DSP Principal Manuel Haß expressed his appreciation for the partnership: “Music builds bridges, not only across genres but also across cities. The collaboration between the DSJ and DSP is a testament to the unifying power of music. We are proud to see our learners share their passion and talent beyond our school walls.”

For the DSP musicians, the journey between Pretoria and Johannesburg was well worth it—an
experience that showcased not just their musical abilities but also the strong bond between the two
German schools.
