Five Edenglen High School students were recently invited to attend a course held by the University of Witwatersrand.  The course was called the Wits Integrated Experience (WIE) and a total of forty other schools were invited.  During this experience the students were given a scenario. The scenario being that a very large meteor was going to collide with the earth, very near to Johannesburg.  They were escorted to different faculties on the Wits campus.

Each faculty dealing with a different aspect of the scenario.   They were then challenged to investigate the problem and to come up with an action plan.  With the help of the Visual Arts department, which built them a polystyrene “meteor”, and weeks of practice, they made a presentation before three judges.  The presentation was not only amusing, but highly enlightening.  There were three prizes as an incentive.  The competition was stiff and Edenglen High School was unfortunate not to be placed in the top three.  The Edenglen Students learned many valuable lessons from the experience and were awarded with a medal and certificate to add to their CV.
