The Learning Academy, a centre for young people who are wanting to experience the opportunities that homeschooling provides and also prefer to be part of a peer group, has opened in the heart of Walmer on 9th Avenue. The Learning Academy provides a place where students attend daily, follow their school curriculum online and receive additional academic assistance if needed.

The “secret sauce” is the fact that young people have a safe space to come to every day and work at their own pace without the added pressures of homework and extra murals. The Academy is headed up by Ms Caron Strydom, a high school teacher specializing in Maths, Life Sciences and Science and Mrs Jill Barclay who takes care of the administration and new enquiries. The “home away from home” centre also has a small kitchen where students who take consumer studies as a subject, can practice their meal preparation. The centre is open every day from 7.30am until 1pm.
