On the AWSUM couch with Hermanus High School’s Head Girl: Cara-Maria Bellingan

Congratulations on being selected as a leader at your school. What are you looking forward to the most during your term as leader? I’m looking forward to everything that I can do to make a difference in my school and the lives of my fellow Hermie learners and also the new people that I’m going to meet on this new journey.

What are your strengths and weaknesses? My strengths are that I’m a really hardworking person and everything that I do I always make sure that I do my best. I’m also a very compassionate person that cares deeply for the people close to me and I know how to communicate with all kinds of people. My weaknesses are that I sometimes can be forgetful thus I can’t live without my school diary! I also sometimes care too much about people then it can be difficult for me to say no to someone which causes me to overcompensate.

Is there anything you would like to change at your school? There isn’t anything that I would change but rather improve on – I want to start new traditions at my school that will build up the spirit in the school and give the children things to look forward to in their high school career. I want to have more team building activities so that there will be a stronger bond between the learners and also between the learners and the educators.

What do you love the most about your school? I love the setting that my school has –  the big green mountains that we have on the one side and then the great blue ocean on the other side – but also the spirit that our school has called “the HERMIE MAGIC “ where all children from different backgrounds come together cheering for the same school as one family .

Matric is your final year, from an academic point of view, what are you aiming for? I want to get the best possible marks that I can get in each subject and work hard this year to make sure that I will have a good future.

What will you message of encouragement be for your prefects/co-leaders? Remember to always be yourself. You are not better than anyone else that is not on the student council, but you are the example and their leaders. Remember to stay humble for great leaders must be servants of others and just enjoy this opportunity. You now have the power to make a difference – let’s use this power in a positive way this year.

Who is your role model? My role model is Simone Nortman , a South-African actress , because of the way that she cares for all people and how strong she stands in her faith in God and isn’t afraid to stand up for that in which she believes, despite that people may think bad of her or give her bad comments on social media.

What are your plans after matric in 2023? I want to study BSC or Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch.

If you could be any superhero, who do you want to be and why? I would want to be Wonder Woman, because of her super strength and her speed

On a regular Saturday, you will find me on the netball courts with my fellow Hermies.

Who is your Hollywood celeb crush? Liam Hemsworth.
