Maragon Olympus is proud of their chess players. Eighteen learners in three teams advanced from District 1 to compete in five rounds at the Gauteng Top Schools tournament, with their coach Uncle Wim’s U/9 team achieving an impressive fourth place. Five players – Morgan Maree, Noah Bhargava, Wilco du Toit, Miné du Toit, and Derek Barnes – have been invited to the prestigious Etienne Lewis Tournament, where provincial teams will be selected after seven matches. A special highlight goes to Miné du Toit, chosen as one of only 12 U/14 girls to represent Gauteng at the Mzansi Closed Tournament. With the chess season now in full swing, our players are preparing for the upcoming Elarduspark Chess Tournament on 18 October.
