Edenvale High School has had a bumper year with their English Olympiad writers! This is a nationwide competition with fabulous prizes, including scholarships at Rhodes University. The three-hour exam is written at school in the first week of March. This year, the Grahamstown-body allowed juniors from Grade 9 to participate, so EHS registered 46 English Olympiad writers – previously it was restricted to Grade 10, 11 and 12.

The result was phenomenal: Jonathan Gatter (grade 11) placed 15^th, Abigail Smethurst (grade 11) placed 32^nd and Rachel Adlard (grade 12) placed 41^st in the country. Certificates arrive in October, either for merit, bronze, diamond or gold.
