De La Salle Holy Cross College celebrated Valentine’s Day

De La Salle Holy Cross College High School celebrated Valentine’s Day under the theme ‘Back in Time’. The theme was chosen by the Grade 11s to fundraise for the 2022 Matric Dance and pupils and staff were asked to dress in outfits resplendent of their chosen back in time era.

On the morning of Monday 14 February, the school colourfully transformed into a time machine; from old school glamour to the kaleidoscope of neon colours of 80s gym attire, savvy 90s hip hop cool to a complete ensemble of the “Brits” of Peaky Blinders, pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed dressing up. Mrs Mary Hyam, Director of Religious Studies and former Headmistress of the Junior School, stole the show in her bridesmaid dress from the 1970s! It was truly a sight to behold.

Being of service is at the heart of who we are as De La Salle Holy Cross College and our community is always striving to be first that they may be of service. Valentine’s Day was an opportunity for us to spread some love to our dedicated healthcare workers who have cared for our nation throughout the pandemic. Healthcare workers have selflessly served our communities and have delivered the best of care under very challenging conditions. We are deeply grateful and indebted to each healthcare worker. Although we could not reach out to every healthcare worker, our community was grateful to have the opportunity to spread some love and sweetness to the healthcare workers at one of South Africa’s biggest and busiest hospitals, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Our message as a College to healthcare workers is “Healthworkers, the work you do is priceless and we honour you for your service, thank you!”
