Last week we hosted the annual Continental Camp for the Africa High Performance Programme (AHPP), which is funded by international sports bodies including the R&A, International Golf Federation, and the Olympic Solidarity Fund. BSI manages the programme on behalf of the PGA of South Africa.
16 international players from 8 countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mauritius), as well 9 national coaches were flown in for 5 days of intense performance training and coach education at Huddle Park and Royal Johannesburg.
With 28 WAGR tournament wins in the last 18 months, 6 national amateur titles, 1 regional individual championship title, and 8 scholarships to US College from amongst the squad, the AHPP is already setting standards for development programmes around the world and changing the lives of the players involved. Last week’s camp took the programme to another level again.
Now into the 3rd year of the programme, it is wonderful to see the development of the players not only in performance but also with the culture of the squad. Strong bonds were built across this vast continent, with everyone having the mutual goals of improvement and upliftment.
Massive thanks to all involved in the planning and execution of the camp, from the amazing BSI and TGSE Cape Town staff, to the guest coaches and speakers including TV sports presenter OG Molefe.
