Volksrust High School Cross Country Team excels in the First HHL Cross Country League

In the highly competitive Junior Boys category, Volksrust High School’s athletes continued to shine. The team clinched an impressive second place overall. Asanda Ngwenya emerged as a standout performer, seizing the gold medal in a thrilling race that showcased his exceptional strength and endurance. Thanatswa Ngirande narrowly missed the podium, finishing a commendable fourth place, which added valuable points to the team’s cumulative score.
Mangqoba Mashini further solidified Volksrust’s dominance in the Senior Boys division by securing another gold medal, this time in the 6 km event. His triumph, amidst fierce competition from 53 other participants, underscored his exceptional athleticism and determination. With such stellar performances, the Senior Boys team clinched a well-deserved third position in the first league.
Despite challenges posed by scheduling conflicts, the Senior Girls team displayed admirable sportsmanship and determination. Although some team members were engaged in the NoordVaal Hockey finals, those who competed in the cross-country event contributed significantly to the team’s overall standing, achieving a commendable 5th-place finish.
The success of the Volksrust High School Cross Country team at the 24th July championships not only highlights their athletic prowess but also underscores the dedication and hard work of both individual athletes and the coaching staff. Their achievements serve as a source of inspiration and pride for the school community, affirming Volksrust High School’s commitment to excellence in both academics and sports.
As they look towards future competitions, the team remains poised to build upon their successes and continue making a mark in the HHL Cross-country league and finally the Interhigh.
