Mr A. Spies has served as principal of Newcastle Senior Primary School since 1998. Before that he was on the staff of Newcastle High School (Head of Department) as well as Panorama (Acting Principal). He was always very keen on sport e.g athletics and rugby and was a Natal Rugby Referee for many years. He also was an enthusiastic runner having run many Comrades Marathons in his day.

In his 25 years at Newcastle Senior Primary School the school has gone from strength to strength. He has helped make it one to be reckoned with on all fields – academics, sport and culture, He always put the interests of the learners first and all decisions were based on that. Mr Spies was a strict disciplinarian but always a fair one. He was a man of action who made sure decisions were followed up on and immediately executed. The school grounds were always impeccable and something for learners and educators to be proud of. Mr Spies will be missed but Newcastle Senior Primary School wish him well in this new chapter of his life.
