Kearsney College celebrated and recognised its matric achievers last week, with Jack White being announced as Dux for 2024 and the College’s exceptional academic standard again being highlighted with a third of boys achieving over 75 percent. At the annual speech night and prize-giving, Jack was awarded Academic Honours Cum Laude (over 86%), as well as subject trophies for mathematics, further studies mathematics, history essay and geography (shared). His runner-up, Ryan Browning, was also awarded Academic Honours Cum Laude, and subject prizes for physical science (shared) and biology. Nineteen boys achieved an aggregate over 80%, to be awarded Academic Honours and Honours Cum Laude.

In addition to Jack and Ryan, deputy head prefect Matthew Lamplough, Julian Carbonel, Woojae Lee, Finn Calenborne, Pranav Sewsunker and Matthew Shepherd also scored over 86%. Academic Honours (80-85%) were awarded to Luca Borrageiro (who also received the coveted trophy for best all-rounder in the 6th Form), Brandon Haley, Evan Powers, Siphosethu Magubane, Liam Calenborne, Qhawe Balfour, Luke Oriani-Ambrosini, Lwandile Nzala, Guy Carpenter and Callum Steer. Former Kearsney teacher and environmental activist Sinegugu Zukulu told the boys about his work in protecting the Wild Coast from destructive seismic testing for oil and gas. He was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize earlier this year for his efforts in this regard. Twenty-six boys were awarded Academic Colours for achieving between 75-79%. They are Alwande Mbonambi, Keegan Gevers, Jude Dyer, Matthew Gourlay, Justin Dawson, Max Buchan, Tshepiso Mokoena, Sean Mayoss, Mayihlome Soga, Mpande Luhlongwane, Lithabe Shweni, Kyle Berry, Aryan Ramnarain, Luke Maritz, Heinrich Fourie, Keagan Coetzee, Gregor Campbell, Jake du Buisson, Andisi Ndlovu, Connor McIntyre, Benjamin Cornell, Daniel Bothma, Asavela Khambule, Matthew Oliver, Jasper Bruno and Matthew Huson.
