Hotazel College Special Awards:Tswanelo Moropa: The Patrator Award: The Patrator Award is presented to a high school learner in recognition of excellence and outstanding achievement in the academic, sporting, or cultural spheres. It represents the highest honour bestowed by Hotazel College, celebrating the talent, determination, and dedication of a learner who serves as an inspiration and role model to fellow learners, teachers, and the wider community. The standards set by those who have received the Patrator Award continue to serve as touchstones of excellence, guiding and motivating future generations of learners at this school.
It is important to recognise that the principles and focus of this award may vary from year to year, in keeping with the diverse strengths, interests, and talents of our learners. The intention of the award is not to encourage imitation of past recipients, but rather to inspire each learner to strive for exceptional accomplishment within their own unique areas of ability and passion.
Ultimately, the Patrator Award seeks to acknowledge a well-balanced individual—one who demonstrates perseverance, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to achieving excellence and personal mastery. This evening, we have the privilege of recognising and celebrating a learner who exemplifies excellence in every sphere of school life. He is an individual who not only seizes opportunities for personal growth and development, but who also distinguishes himself through perseverance, self-discipline, and an unwavering commitment to hard work.
- Academically, he has demonstrated outstanding achievement, earning two gold and three silver awards this evening.
- Culturally, he has showcased his talent through participation in the Allegretto Eisteddfod and as a member of the school’s drama group, and received a silver certificate at the Kalahari Drama Festival.
- On the sports field, he has made a valuable contribution to the success of the u.17 rugby team.
- He also serves as the school’s Value-Driven Ambassador, embodying the principles and ideals we strive to uphold.
- Beyond these achievements, he participates in a unique and fascinating sport — gold panning.
- In 2024, he competed in the National Goldpanning Championships in Pilgrim’s Rest, where he achieved third place in the Batea Traditional category and was selected to join the South African National Team.
- In July this year, he proudly represented South Africa at the World Goldpanning Championships, achieving an impressive 10th place internationally.
- Later in the year, he once again participated in the National Championships in Pilgrim’s Rest, where he was crowned National Champion in the Batea Traditional Pan category.
- In 2026, he will once again have the honour of representing South Africa, this time on the world stage in Poland.
These remarkable accomplishments stand as a testament to his character, dedication, and pursuit of excellence. It is, therefore, with great pride that we present Tshwanelo Moropa with the Patrator Award.
