Grantleigh Schools Jnr Chef club learners recently rolled up their sleeves in the kitchen, preparing a simple yet tasty favourite: meat on a stick. What made the lesson special was not only the cooking itself, but the stories it sparked. As the class prepared their meal, they discovered that this dish has many names across cultures: Kebab (English), Sosatie (Afrikaans), Souvlaki (Greek), Shishqebap (Albanian), and Inyama ebhakwe emgodini (Zulu – grilled meat on a stick).

The experience highlighted how food is more than just nourishment — it is a bridge between cultures, sparking curiosity and celebrating diversity.
