Glenashley Preparatory School aims to provide a nurturing learning environment

Glenashley Preparatory School aims to provide a nurturing learning environment, as a bridging opportunity, for learners who may struggle with pace, comprehension, maths, reading, spelling and organisation. We offer this service through our LEAP unit, which is our academic support unit, offering one academic support class per grade, grade 4 to grade 7, with a maximum of 12 per class. Our LEAP unit allows our learners to gain confidence in themselves, and improve their executive functioning skills, in order for them to cope in a mainstream environment.
We enable the learners in our care to develop their optimal potential. Pictured are some of our learners from our Grade 5 LEAP class, who created beautiful visual displays to accompany both their English and Afrikaans orals. Our Grade 5’s was tasked to speak about a favourite recipe and were encouraged to bring in samples of the finished product. In Afrikaans, learners could choose their oral to be either about healthy or unhealthy food, their ideal menu for a day or their favourite food. They were required to produce key cards, and some of our learners chose to create a visual display of their own accord. As the happy faces in the photos show, our Grade 5’s enjoyed this project!
