Milnerton High came together for something truly special – our Dress to Express Day, a celebration of positivity, individuality, and unity. After a challenging time for our school community, this day served as a reminder of who we are and what we stand for. They wanted to take this moment to refocus on our core values – kindness, empathy, integrity, respect, and belonging. Originally planned as a Halloween dress-up, they decided to transform the day into an opportunity to refocus on what makes us proud to be a Millies learner: kindness, empathy, and togetherness. Learners were encouraged to dress in ways that reflect who they are, what brings them joy, and what inspires them – from cultural pride and personal passions to messages of hope and creativity. The result? A vibrant, colourful display of self-expression that radiated good energy across our campus. To mark the day, they gathered for a special school assembly where some of the best costumes were celebrated and learners were reminded that self-expression is most powerful when rooted in respect and compassion.
They were honoured to welcome guest speaker and life coach Portia Khambi, who shared an inspiring message about how each of us can choose to be a light – in our school, in our community, and in our country. She reminded our learners that their words and actions hold the power to create a safer, kinder world for everyone.
As Millies, they are guided by our school motto: Lux Esto – Let There Be Light.
Today was a powerful reminder of what that truly means.
To be the light that helps others feel safe, seen, and valued.
To be the light that stands for kindness even when it’s difficult.
To be the light that brings hope to those around us.
They are proud of our learners for embracing the spirit of this day and for showing that light shines brightest when we stand together.
