As part of their immersive experience during their Transdisciplinary Unit of , ‘Where we are in Place and Time,’ the inquisitive Grade 5 students of Crawford International Sandton Preparatory embarked on a captivating excursion to Maropeng. This educational visit aimed at deepening their understanding of the migration of early humans,  tracing back to the first hominids and connecting it to the migration patterns of the early San people. Throughout their learning experiences,  students actively participated in various activities designed to unravel the mysteries of animal and human migration.  With a global lens on migration, children explored New York’s remarkable and eye-opening Ellis Island migration system using an online virtual platform. This experience allowed them to empathise with the life-changing experiences of immigrants from the past. Students used this as a steppingstone to conduct research in Life Sciences. They explored migration in different ecosystems and with other living things. The grappled with the study of migratory animals, broadening their knowledge of the interconnectedness of life on earth.
