On Friday the 18th of August, our student executive body in collaboration with our college staff extended a heartfelt welcome to the bright minds of Grade six and seven. This event is an annual tradition at Crawford International Ruimsig and serves to create personalised connections between the Preparatory students and their future mentors while gaining a better understanding of the rich and diverse subject offering in the college. Under the guidance of our new Acting Executives, groups of between eight to ten Grade six and seven masterpieces embarked upon an exhilarating challenge that defied convention.
Clad in avant-garde ensembles, meticulously crafted to embody an ‘out of the box’ ethos, and adorned with imaginative team monikers, these young pioneers delved into an artistic expression of creativity. Further enriching their experience, our Grade six and seven students got into the vibe of our college through an warcry bestowed upon them by our Acting Executives. This poignant tradition, a prelude to their forthcoming Grade 8 camp in 2024, marked the commencement of their college journey.
Embracing the theme of discovery, every group was handed an enthralling ‘Unboxed’ manual—a narrative weaving the journey that awaits them at our college. Within its pages, clever gaps beckoned to be filled, urging students to embark on an intellectual scavenger hunt to unravel the tale’s missing pieces. This challenge led them to traverse various college subject, sport, and service stations, where they partook in quick fire ‘minute-to-win-it’ style games.
These engaging activities tested their grasp of subject-specific concepts, fostered outside-the-box thinking, and nurtured invaluable teamwork skills. CraIn a triumphant finish, all 14 groups skillfully pieced together the unboxed story, emerging not only with a sense of accomplishment but also with newfound bonds and friendships among their future college peers.
The afternoon’s festivities created a lasting memory for our Grade six and seven students, and the college community eagerly anticipates their arrival in the years 2024 and 2025, where they will join our ranks and continue their journey of limitless learning.
