Creativity was at the forefront as our talented learners showcased their skills at the recent Art Eisteddfod, earning certificates and well-deserved recognition for their remarkable work.

A special congratulations goes to:

  • Liyana Docrat – Double Gold

  • Andani Maswime – Gold

We are incredibly proud of these young artists, whose passion, creativity, and dedication shone brightly throughout the competition.

Their achievements are a true celebration of what happens when imagination and hard work come together to create brilliance!

Interview with Liyana Docrat, Grade 4:

How did you feel when you heard that you won a Gold/Double Gold award at the Art Eisteddfod?“I was surprised, amazed and excited.”

Can you tell us a bit about the artwork you created for the competition?“It was about a girl holding the planet Earth in her palm and was water-based.”

What inspired your artwork?“I wanted to make people more aware of the planet and that it needs care.”

How long did it take you to complete your piece?“It took me about 2 hours to create it, but lots of planning before.”

What was the most enjoyable part of creating your artwork?“Using all the different textures and putting some glitter, because we all need to SHINE, which is our theme in the primary school this year.”

Did you face any challenges while working on it, and how did you overcome them?

“Yes, I first made it too light when I was planning, then realised that I needed to darken it a bit.”

Who has been your biggest supporter or inspiration in your art journey?“My art teachers, Mrs Hopkins is my inspiration, but my most important inspiration is my big brother, Mohamed.”

What do you enjoy most about participating in art competitions like the Eisteddfod?“I get to learn how to improve my artwork.”

How do you think art helps you express yourself or your ideas?“You can just express your feelings through your artwork.”

What advice would you give to other learners who also want to enter art competitions? “Just do it, don’t be afraid and don’t doubt yourself.”
