On the 8th of March 2024, a heartwarming cupcake event brought together Grade 1 and Grade 12 learners at Summerhill College. Filled with anticipation, the Grade 1 learner arrived bubbling with excitement, met with warm and caring welcomes from their Grade 12 counterparts. As they gathered to decorate cupcakes, it became evident that the Grade 12 learner were having just as much, if not more, fun than their younger peers. Eager to taste their creations, the Grade 1 learner dove in, resulting in half of the cupcake decorations ending up adorning their lips. Seizing the chance to demonstrate their nurturing skills, the Grade 12 learners stepped in, providing napkins to gently wipe away the mess.

The festivities continued with an Easter egg hunt, during which some Grade 12 learners jokingly inquired about the whereabouts of their “children,” as they joined in the search for hidden treasures. One Grade 12 learners even quipped to a friend about his perceived lack of parenting prowess, jesting that he might not make a good father because he couldn’t locate his assigned “child.” To burn off the sugar-induced energy, the Grade 12 learners organized classic games like red light, Green Light, and Red Rover. The event reached a delightful climax as Grade 12 learners and Grade 1 learners united in blowing bubbles together. As the day drew to a close, emotions ran high during the farewells, highlighting the strong bonds forged between the older and younger learners .
