St Dominics Newcastle learners reignite hope

St Dominics Newcastle is extremely proud of the Grade 11 class of 2022, who took the initiative to participate in the ‘Jars of Hope’ campaign to help those in need.

“Jars of Hope is an initiative that helps feed the less fortunate in our community. Tossing the ingredients from the jar into boiling water provides a meal to four people, spreading hope. The St Dominics High School family put in a tremendous amount of effort. From those who generously brought the ingredients to school, to those who sat after school packaging the jars. Thanks to all their efforts, some Grade 11 pupils could travel to Silver Spoon and donate several crates of jars. ‘Jars of Hope’ is a perfect example of how small actions can make drastic changes,” – Sarah Baney Grade 11.

“Hope. Sometimes that’s all you have. When you have nothing else … if you hold onto it, believe strongly enough it, then you will understand that it’s everything you need. The Grade 11 class of 2022, under the patient guidance of Mrs Vilander, extended a little love and a magnitude of soul in a pilot project entitled Jars of Hope. Inspired by the Angel Whispers Campaign, a viral idea of placing meal ingredients into a jar and sharing it with the less fortunate is a perfect example of proving a little goes a long way. An arduous task of collecting reusable jars, repurposing them and filling them with a nourishing meal culminated in sharing moments of great joy with community members as the Jars of Hope were distributed. We hope that our efforts inspire you to create your own little Jars of Hope in your own homes and to distribute them in your community. It is in these brief moments of kindness that we find our humanity.” -Ria Prithiraj Ramdas, Grade 11.
