It was a remarkable weekend at the South African Schools Rowing Championships for St Andrew’s School for Girls, where the girls delivered outstanding performances on the water and showcased the strength, determination, and unity of their squad. The highlight of the regatta came with a spectacular victory for the First Quad, with the crew powering their way to the title. This achievement, combined with consistently strong performances across multiple events, secured St Andrew’s the achievement of being crowned the Overall Girls’ School Winners.

Overall Winners – L-R: Tara Nooy (Head of Campus Sport), Jade Burnand (Rowing Captain), Jamie Croly (Head of Rowing)

This prestigious title confirms St Andrew’s as the best girls’ rowing school in South Africa for the second year in a row, a testament to the dedication of the athletes, the commitment of the coaches, the support of the parents, and the culture of excellence within the programme led by Head Coach, Mr Jamie Croly. The championships also saw some remarkable record-breaking performances. The U14 Quad set a new South African Schools Championships record, while the U15 Double set a new course record, which also stands as a South African Schools Championships record.

Beyond the headline victories and record-breaking moments, the championships also saw numerous impressive placements across various categories. These results highlight the depth of talent within the squad and the continued growth of rowing at the school. The regatta would not have been as successful without the unwavering support from the St Andrew’s community. Parents and supporters lined the banks throughout the weekend, cheering passionately and providing invaluable encouragement to the rowers as they competed. We are incredibly proud of our girls and the way they represented the school.
