The St Andrew’s College 1st XI, featuring a relatively inexperienced squad, travelled to East London to face Selborne College in a 40-over match on Saturday. Selborne, batting first, got off to an impressive start. Despite the efforts of the College bowlers, Selborne posted a formidable 305/5, with William Beamish leading the bowling attack and finishing with figures of 3/60.

In response, the St Andrew’s College openers made a solid start, keeping pace with the required run rate. However, as wickets began to fall, the pressure mounted. Oliver Johns top-scored with a well-played 58 off 50 balls, while Benjamin Scharges contributed an unbeaten 36. Despite their efforts, St Andrew’s College finished on 244/9 in their allotted 35 overs, falling short by 26 runs after the match was further reduced. In other results:

  • The 2nd XI secured a convincing 5-wicket victory, with Adrian Gaunt claiming 4 wickets.
  • The 3rd XI dominated Selborne, winning by 10 wickets, with Caleb Coventry taking 3 wickets, and Mida Nkontso (41*) and Liam Painter (35*) guiding the team to victory.
  • The Colts A XI played two T20 matches, winning one and losing the other. Ethan Malan excelled with a standout performance, scoring 71 and taking 3/17 in the first game.
  • The Colts B XI were defeated by 7 wickets.
  • The Junior Colts A XI secured a comprehensive 8-wicket win, with Corne VD Merwe contributing a quick-fire 44 and taking 5/22.
  • The Junior Colts B XI also triumphed, winning by 7 wickets, with Tyghe Muller scoring 49.
