Rondebosch Boys’ HS learner competed in Junior World Rowing Championships 2022 . We are incredibly proud of Sasha Mosig (E’22), and his coach Bevan Stephens (current head coach of Rondebosch Boys’ Rowing), who competed in the Junior World Rowing Championships, held in Varese, Italy from 27-31 July 2022.
Sasha was selected for the Single Scull Boat Race – traditionally, the most competitive boat class to compete in at the event, with over 29 nations sending their best rowers to compete. Sasha drew a very challenging heat, which left him to face up against 4 of the best European juniors (3 of whom were in the top 4 at the European Junior Rowing Championships). Sasha put together a fantastic race, with a late surge to the line as the final decider between 5 boats, all within a second of each other. Sasha finished in 5th, with a personal best time of 7:06:57. Sasha’s final race was commanding, where he took the lead from start to finish. A great way to reconcile the tour, where Sasha received numerous compliments from the commentators.

Sasha is also ranked the 13th fastest U19 sculler in the world and has developed an international reputation for being a fierce competitor with explosive finishing pushes that often take the other world-class contenders by surprise! Congratulations, Sasha!
