More than a concert, the Harmony Festival is a celebration of youth talent, creativity and community. On 20 June 2026, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School will once again open its doors to audiences for a full day of outstanding performances at the Sylvia Vietzen Community Centre. From 09:00 to 17:00, visitors can enjoy a vibrant programme of music, dance and drama, complemented by local food vendors and a warm community atmosphere.
A Festival with History
Conceptualised in 2023 and successfully launched in 2025, the Harmony Festival was born out of GHS’s participation in the annual All Girls’ Festival. Inspired by the power of the arts to unite and uplift, the school created its own platform to nurture youth talent and celebrate creativity. While the first edition focused primarily on music, the festival has since evolved into a broader showcase of the performing arts, embracing dance, drama and other disciplines. This growth reflects GHS’s commitment to fostering artistic excellence in all its forms and ensuring that
young performers have the opportunity to shine on stage.

A Message from the Principal
Principal Mr Matthew Marwick shares his excitement:
“We at Girls’ High are delighted to again host the Harmony Festival. What excites me most
is not only the extraordinary talent that will be on display, but also the opportunity for
young people from different schools and backgrounds to come together through the
performing arts. There is something truly uplifting about a day filled with music, dance,
drama and creativity. We look forward to welcoming performers, families and supporters to
GHS for what promises to be a joyful celebration of talent, friendship and community.”
A Celebration of Connection
At its heart, the Harmony Festival demonstrates the unique power of the performing arts to unite
people across backgrounds and generations. There is no cost to attend, and we welcome the whole community to join us and share in this special event. As the festival continues to grow, its purpose remains unchanged: to celebrate artistic excellence, strengthen community bonds and inspire the next generation of performers.
