Kingsway High School proudly celebrates Ynez Norris, a Grade 8 learner who has once again excelled in the Coolest Projects South Africa – Durban Edition, winning 1st place for the second year in a row. This year, Ynez impressed judges with “Chat Buddy,” an AI bot he created using Python that responds verbally to commands. Last year, he won the same competition with an interactive Maths and English learning game designed to help learners improve through fun, gamified activities. Competing as the only solo entrant against teams from schools across KZN, Ynez earned unanimous support from judges representing DUT, UKZN, local educators and the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists. He walked away with a trophy, a Raspberry Pi Pico kit, and a R1 000 Pavilion voucher. Outside the tech world, Ynez also achieved his black belt through IFFSK after years of dedication to karate. A true all-rounder, Ynez continues to inspire with his innovation, discipline, and passion.
