Grantleigh’s girls’ cricket team produced a composed and commanding performance to secure a nine-wicket victory over local rivals Felixton in challenging conditions earlier this week. After losing the toss, Grantleigh Schools were asked to bowl first in sweltering heat. Despite the tough conditions, the bowlers showed discipline and determination, limiting Felixton to a competitive total of 131. Izzy Currie led the attack with an excellent return of three wickets for 25 runs, while Maya du Plessis celebrated a memorable moment by claiming her first wicket on debut for the College girls’ team.
The chase, however, belonged firmly to Grantleigh. Opening batters Izzy Currie and Nobe Zwane delivered a remarkable 115-run partnership off just 83 balls, setting the tone early. Zwane contributed a fluent 31 runs, while Currie continued her outstanding form with an unbeaten 48, narrowly missing a half-century. Grantleigh reached the target with ease, securing a dominant nine-wicket win. Currie was deservedly named Player of the Match for the second consecutive week, recognising her all-round excellence with both bat and ball. The victory marks Grantleigh’s second win from two matches this season, underlining a confident and promising start for the girls’ cricket side.
