On Thursday last week two teams from Graeme College competed in the Rhodes University Science quiz. This year, the quiz was a virtual, online event, similar to last year, which meant that schools from all around the country could take part. The junior team, with three grade 10 members, started off strong and ended up in 6th place out of a total of 42 schools, finishing as the highest local Makhanda school in the competition. Encouragingly, by the end of some of the most important and challenging categories – biology, chemistry and physics, the boys were leading the pack and were placed at the top of the podium.

The senior team this year was made up of three grade 11 boys, as the grade 12s were in the middle of trial exams. This meant that they were competing against teams of grade 12s, where a whole year of learning and preparation makes a huge difference. The boys were undaunted however and participated enthusiastically with great team spirit and camaraderie and ended up in the top 20. Thanks to Rhodes for a really fun event and congratulations to both teams for flying the school flag high.
