Christ Church Prep and College Matric upliftment ceremony. “A tradition is a belief or behaviour passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past.” A very special tradition at Christ Church College is the Matric Upliftment Ceremony.  The Matric year is, arguably, one of the most difficult and stressful years in a young adult’s life.  It is filled with fear, self-doubt, stress and sometimes feelings of inadequacy.

As a school, it is important that we assist our pupils and give them mechanisms to cope with stress. On Thursday, 12 May, the Matric Class of 2022 attended an Upliftment Ceremony.  During this ceremony, fear and concerns were discussed by both Mr David Bell, our Principal, and Mrs Lisle Twaddle, our College Deputy Head. Pupils were given advice on how to cope with issues and concerns about their matric year.  Handing fears to our Lord and trusting in Him to guide them through this trying period were discussed.

Pupils were each given a piece of paper on which they wrote their personal fears and concerns, acknowledging that they cannot, and do not, need to go through these stressful times alone.  These papers were then put through a shredder, symbolising the release and handing over to our Lord. Each pupil received a small wooden cross with a bible verse. To the Matric Class of 2022, stay strong, trust in our Lord and work hard!
