An Unforgettable matric farewell for one special fan

12 October 2023: The matric farewell is a treasured tradition – a spectacular night that young men and women cherish for the rest of their lives. No measure is spared to make this night unforgettable, and the greatest care is taken to capture every moment. Nontlunguzane Daphney Maerman, a matric learner from Rekgonne Secondary School in Lichtenburg, had a dream come true in the most spectacular fashion when a classic Bentley arrived at her doorstep while she was getting ready for her recent matric farewell. The luxury car was sent by revered investor and philanthropist Zunaid Moti, along with a driver and a professional photographer to capture every magical moment. Moti later also pledged R20,000 to assist with Maerman’s future tertiary education fees, as well as an employment opportunity once she finishes high school. Moti initially came across Maerman through his MotiMoves business intervention mentorship programme, which provides its members with expert entrepreneurial guidance and practical tips to kickstart their business aspirations. Members who have joined the programme regularly interact with Moti and participate in giveaways on both his social media pages and during his monthly MotiMoves webinars.

Nontlunguzane’s brother, Olekua, is one such member. He responded to a social media competition several weeks ago and humbly requested the use of Moti’s Bentley for his little sister’s matric farewell. Olekua dreamed of giving her the opportunity to feel like a queen for the occasion. He said that Nontlunguzane had worked hard throughout her high school years and deserved a special treat that he couldn’t afford to give her. “I was deeply touched by Olekua’s emotional request. The competition to win a ride in the Bentley was open to everyone, but I was ecstatic that the prize went to such a deserving person,” says Moti. “MotiMoves’ focus remains on helping entrepreneurs achieve their goals, but it has since evolved into so much more, giving me an important platform to give back and touch the lives of deserving people from all walks of life.”

The vehicle was one of three cars that Zunaid Moti had put up for a competition on his social media pages. He had asked his followers to vote for their favourite car from the BMW i8, the Ferrari 458, or the Bentley S3 Continental Convertible. The Bentley is an iconic masterpiece with handcrafted and comfortable interiors, smooth suspension, and powerful V8 engine. It was produced from 1962 to 1965 and is considered a classic car. Ultimately, the Bentley received the most votes, followed by the Ferrari, and then the BMW. Olekua was chosen from among the voters and, after a telephonic conversation with the lucky winner, Moti offered to send the Bentley by truck from Futurexotics Emporium in Sandton all the way to Lichtenberg.
“I had an opportunity to see the photos afterwards, and I couldn’t help but become teary-eyed. They perfectly captured the raw emotions on Nontlunguzane’s face when she realised what was happening, as well as the overwhelming joy shared by the entire community as they gathered in the street to show their support to this amazing young lady,” Moti concludes. “Olekua well done to you for putting your sister’s needs forward and for being an amazing big brother. Stay blessed.”
