Congratulations to Cannons Creek Grade 6 learner Atiya Kaplen who won a Silver Award for outstanding individual achievement in the final round of the Vietnam International Applied Mathematics Competition (VIAMC) 2026. This took place in Da Nang, Vietnam, from 5-8 March 2026.

Atiya Kaplen participated in the finals after ranking in the top learners in the national round. South Africa was among nine countries competing in the final round of the VIAMC 2026, and Atiya was one of the 181 participants. The VIAMC focuses on applied mathematics, modeling, and real-world situations for students from Grades 1 to 12. In the final round, students compete in an individual round as well as a team competition with their peers from other countries.
