On Thursday 13 October, our Class of 2022 ceased to be College boys and became College “Old Boys” as they were formally inducted into the Maritzburg College Old Boys’ Association. Valedictorian of the Class of 2022, Zibusiso Shongwe, gave a moving tribute to his fellow peers and to the school, highlighting what the five year journey and College’s brotherhood mean to them. Friday 14 October is another step in closing off their five year College journey, with the School’s annual Speech Day and Valedictory Service recognising outstanding academic achievements by our 6th formers. In his address to the boys, College’s headmaster, Mr Chris Luman, drew from Sean Covey’s “7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens”, namely; be proactive, begin with end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand then to be understood, synergise and co-operate, and always
sharpen the sword (review and renew).
Guest of Honour at Speech Day was Dr Erna de Lange, KZN CEO of the Governing Body Foundation, who delivered a humerous message of advice to both parents and boys, with a reminder to strive for independence which equals freedom. Sphephelo Mbonambi, one of College’s Deputy Head Prefects, gave a speech in which he reminded his peers of what it means to be a College boy and the five year journey they have walked together. He thanked all the College staff for what they have done for the Class of 2022, and encouraged the incoming matrics of 2023 to strive to always challenge the limits and give their all.

At the 2022 Maritzburg College Speech Day, Mrs Jeanette Finnie (College Deputy Head: Academics) with Guest Speaker, Dr Erna de Lange (KZN CEO of the Governing Body Foundation) and College’s Headmaster, Mr Chris Luman.
