All about Me!
Our Year 1 class have been very busy with their unit of enquiry “All about Me.” They created these gorgeous self portraits. The students all had to look carefully in the mirror before drawing themselves. This is a good way to encourage an awareness of body concepts and spatial perception. Today, they created 3D play-dough models of themselves, focussing on detail and manipulating the play-dough into various forms. Squeezing and playing with play-dough is good for hand and arm strengthening!

Working together
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” The Year 6s are practicing collaboration and working together in History class where they are learning about Mapungubwe and Great Zimbabwe. They worked together to make study summaries for their up-coming assessments. They used colour to make important things stand out, and organised information in a way that makes sense to them. Pictures, diagrams, bold headings and lots of colour make study summaries stand out and make the information easier to remember.

Science Experiments
Science experiments are ALWAYS fun! The Year 6 class explored the capacity of lungs and created the following experiment.
They filled a bottle with water and filled a large container half full with water. With their hand on top of the bottle, they turned the bottle upside down and set it in the container of water. They tried to keep the water inside the bottle! Carefully they put one end of the tubing under the water inside the bottle. While a friend held the bottle in position, they took a big breath and blew it out into the tube. As they blew the air out of their lungs, down the tube and into the bottle, the water level in the bottle went down. The water in the bottle was replaced with air and that is how much air their lungs hold – lung capacity! They had a fantastic time with this hands-on-learning lesson!
